Gemiler Adası lies in the North of the bay, vvhich is on the Southeastern part of Fethiye Körfezi and is surrounded by Tuzla Burnu and Yoğun Burnu. The Northern part of the island is sheltered from ali winds. Anchoring is possible in 15-20 m towards the Western part of the channel between the island and the mainland, with a line ashore. Sometimes there may be a West-going current in the channel, so çare should be taken.
The island is covered with settlement ruins belonging to the Byzantine period. They are \vell worth seeing.
There are numerous aıins on the island, which is used as a museum today. Besides the Lycian necropolis, the church with a mosaic ground, the cistern, the bath, the hospital andthe quay are some of the most attractive places The vaulted passage from the hill down the quay is thought to have been built for priests The island and Gemiler Koyu, opposite it, are ideal for yacht tourism and water sports. Usinji the 20-minute-road, you can go to Kaya Köy which was an old Rum settlement. This place known as Lövissi (Karmylassos) in the past, wat the largest settlement in the region till 1924 with a population of 15.000. Today it is nearly ir ruins, and we can only see a fevv building> ineluding several houses, two big churches chapels and a sehool
