Kalkan Limanı

Kalkan Limanı
36°15'5N, 29°24'5E
Settlement and the harbour are in the Northwest of the large bay (Yalı Limanı). When approaching from the West, Çatalada (although it looks like one island, actually there are tvvo islands separated by a narrow channel) can be seen. Önce into the bay, a massive modern development can be seen in the West, in Yeşilköy and to the East of the original settlement. The original settlement, however, can only be seen vvhen you are right in the bay.
When meltem winds are near Yeşilköy, çare is needed of the winds turning back from the cliffs. Jura shoal (4-6 m), at the entrance of the harbour, 1/4 mile South-Southwest of İnce Burun, is quite important. The shoal can easily be seen in calm weather. There is another shoal approximately 100 m South of the islet at the Southern extremity of Sanbelen Adası.
At night, you can use Çatalca lighthouse (F1.5s5M) and F.G. and F.R. lighthouses at the entrance of the harbour.
it is possible to approach these places as shown in the harbour. As the bottom is sand, not everywhere will provide good holding. As the harbour is quite narrow, çare is needed while anchoring. it offers good shelter.
Kalkan is a town whose tourist facilities are developing day by day. Its center is quite
attractive as has preserved its historical aspect. Besides, it is the only safe harbour in the region for visiting Patara and Xanthos.in the last period of the Ottoman Empire, Kalkan was a small fishing village, also having a Rum population. The church, built in the 19th century, was later turned into a mosque. Most of the two-floored, bay-windowed stone houses, called. "Island Type", are now used for touristic purposes. While staying in Kalkan, you can also visit the ancient cities of Xanthos (Kınık) and Letoon (Bohsullu) in the region. Xanthos, accepted as ıhe largest settlement and the capital of the Lycian region, and the sacred city of Letoon
